On Friday, September 16 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., D. A. A. | 2022 Caribbean Fine Art Exhibit and Awards will honor the works of Haitian artists Philippe Dodard, Claudia Apaid and Jean-Jacques Stephen “Jan Jak” Alexis. The multidimensional celebration of visual arts and fashion will double as an opening reception for a two-month long fine art show featuring a collection of their pieces.

Hi Claudia, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by energy, the magic of it’s unfolding and the mystery of source. I am incited by the essence of life, nature ‘s sacredness, culture, colors, patterns, spirit. There is an unseen force that fuels all creation and its process. It connects us to the universe in all of its immensity. Its vibration incites and fuels our being. This activated life force energy creates complex designs which serves both, as a harness to the dwelling place of the self and as a doorway to the hidden fields that connect us to the all. My creations are often an exploration of this space, a metaphor of how the macro and the micro come whole together so preciously and cohesively into a tapestry of wholeness.

Alors pour la fin 2020, ils ont décidé de faire découvrir “Renaissance”. “On a besoin de Renaissance ici et à travers le monde, voilà pourquoi on est allé frapper aux portes d’artistes comme Claudia Apaid qui parle d’énergie, d’aller vers le haut”, témoigne Sydney. "Renaissance" comprend d’autres artistes de renom comme Mario Benjamin, Phaidra Sterlin, mais aussi des jeunes tels Yael Talleyrand, Mister George et Maxim Laroche. Comme il est dans leur concept, on était bercé d’electro et de lounge. Oliga était de la partie. Il a procédé a un création artistique.

How did you become an artist?
The sight of colors always excited and stimulated my being since childhood.
In my early memories, I remember the feeling of excitement arriving at the toy store and making a beeline for the arts and crafts isle.
I could stare at the Crayola section for hours and imagine all the possibilities of what I could create with what was in front of me.

Le centre culturel de Little Haïti a donné le ton à la communauté haïtienne, le mercredi 5 décembre. L’espace dans tous ses compartiments était envahi de monde. Peintres, sculpteurs, photographes, designer, artisans étaient sous les feux des projecteurs. Des journalistes de plusieurs médias passaient d’un artiste à un autre pour saisir l’instant.
